here in Ontario we have legislation called the green energy act .

there is  lot to it, but one aspect allows  the superseding of municipal bylaws

Check your state laws.  In Colorado, wind turbines can no longer be forbidden by HOAs because of looks.   (You still have to be careful of safety and noise, because they could get you on those.)

the town kind of grew up around me .
im zoned residential 1 _ single family dwelling
but i have a cottage court grandfathered in.

i think the most opposition would come from people trying to sell there property.
or, people afraid of falling house values, that sort of thing.

Let's see...Zoning...Home Owners Associations...Virtually any neighbor with a grudge. That's what I like about my 35 acres. I'm zoned "Open Space" but I can also run a commercial business.

there was an article in the local paper last week.
cleanfield energy will be building a large vertical axis mill on the roof of the local catholic school.
in fact, five such mills will be built on school roofs in the Georgian bay area.

this is good news for me.
if a local school can have a vertical axis mill sweeping 100sq.ft then why not i

Wepower bought Pacwind.  I think the guy who was the driver behind Pacwind died; that could lead to problems.
