Interesting design, but not very bird friendly !!!, plus can you think of the stress on the turbine if only one blade was to fail.

It sure seems as though it would take a lot of towers to keep it up. Even if the weight was only triangulated; when the rotor starts to spin, centrifugal force is going to cause the blades to shorten and you'd better have some strong guy cables to not only carry the initial weight but the extra as the blades widen and shorten.

I think a forest of these would optimize the design but the website talks about 160ft. diameter. Imagine the weight that would be suspended; I don't know, why not just put a central pole in and solve a whole lot of headaches. Then guy them individually as the std. darrius is, that way if one fails they won't all come tumbling down

interesting yes but if it was harnessing the force transferred to the guy wires, more so. And use the expanding diameter as a rotational speed control

After researching a little I found that tension wires are used to keep the blades from bowing out. The spinning wires would add drag but eliminate the need for a center shaft to handle the compression load.

This one has been up for a while but still no performance data has been published that I can find.

This is an interesting idea; eliminate the central pole and stabilize the upper part of the rotor with wires.

i created once this one. A magnus windmill combined with a Darrieus Savonius

Never mind, its not so efficient.

Evidently you could make the same in a VAWTS configuration

but again, not so efficient. The magnus effect has a low efficiency, it suffices to drill down the 'Cl-Cd table' and do the simulations

Here's a pretty interesting story about bigger vawts getting some traction. Not the garage made overunity 300 mph train youtube claims but some serious players.

Hi Lloyd

It's not just that gets my back up, he has claimed it with another turbine !!! his ridge top turbine, This idea first came up 3 years ago by a British company, It took first place in the Green Energy Callange a few years back.( The Ridge Blade Turbine) But in his website it looks like he has invented this as well. mind you I cant turn my whole house into the wind all day long it would make me  seasick.

I think this is one that STeve did the sim on and the fellow actually? said that it was a lenz with adjustments? To be honest, I think it wouldn't take much to put a note in the vid. There are lots of them out there, with no excuse.

It was, and then later Andreas did the sims for them.  I did suggest they should give Ed credit, and they did in one video.  But I see it's not in this one.   They did change most of the ratios of the turbine (scoop size, diameter, tail length, and angle)

Russ

 Hi Russ thanks for posting.

I must have got out of bed the wrong side this morning, This turbine is a Lenz turbine. This actually P****s me off how he claims that he has invented it. Ok he calls it the multi vortex compressor turbine. In my neck of the woods this would be classed as fraud. Ok it's ok to say that you have made some changes to Ed's turbine. but to claim that you have invented it is totally wrong. (End of rant)
