RE: Can a Buck converter improve turbine performance???
Hi, I did a bi-directional DC motor that used a voltage doubler to drive the fets. Are the videos still listed? I would like to try to fabricate a basic Buck converter to see if it helps the turbines performance.
Can a Buck converter improve turbine performance???
My MPPT board is a buck converter. That little box that says "control" is the rest of the board. :-) I also have a transistor in parallel with the diode and it turns on at the right time to provide less of a voltage drop (synchronous rectificaion).
There are some challanges to the circuit. One being that the gate of the transistor has to be drivien at least 5 volts above the voltage it's switching. That's a royal pain!
I have a few youtube videos showing a buck converter on a turbine with just a fixed dutycycle oscillator.

Can a Buck converter improve turbine performance???
After watching Steves video on MPPT, I wonder if a Buck converter would improve turbine performance by limiting the affect of additional loading created by the stators internal resistance.
