i was thinking, evidently when you make a model to be printable, you need to think about the 'inside' of the blades. you should make them hollow but structuraly strong enough, fe 3-5mm thick and internal supports.
More recent 3D CAD packages allow for helical extrusions. I've had pretty good results using just 60 data points for a blade, 90 should be plenty for something to be pretty. You then take that profile and sweep it along a helical path. To get the new profile, I imagine you would create a plane perpendicular to the helical path and slice the solid.
